University of Missouri police arrested a 19-year-old white male on Wednesday for making terror threats against black students.

Reuters reports Hunter M. Park of Rolla, Missouri, was apprehended early Wednesday morning by police for vowing to shoot black students on the Columbia campus over social media.

"I'm going to stand my ground tomorrow and shoot every black person I see," Park said in a message circulated on the anonymous messaging app Yik Yak. The post was tagged "Columbia."

"Some of you are alright. Don't go to campus tomorrow," read a second message.

Park is a sophomore at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, which is about 95 miles south of the University of Missouri campus. He is currently being held at the Boone County Jail in Columbia on $4,500 bail.

According to authorities, Park was not near the campus at the time of the arrest.

"Threats of violence of any kind are not tolerated," Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader said in a statement, according to The Washington Post. "As a campus, we are grateful that this situation did not escalate. I thank both of the police departments for their swift action in handling this case. As always, the safety of our students, faculty and staff is our utmost concern."

The University of Missouri received nationwide attention this week after the school's president and chancellor stepped down, due to massive protests over the administration's mishandling of campus racism.

Several other universities, including Yale and Ithaca College, have also held marches and walkouts in protest.

Yik Yak spokeswoman Hilary McQuaide said the company assisted authorities in finding the source of the messages.

"It's our hope that the range of discussion on MU's campus can help to bring about positive resolution and a better understanding within the community," wrote Yik Yak co-founder Brooks Buffington on the company's blog. "But there's a point where discussion can go too far - and the threats that were posted on Yik Yak last night were both upsetting and completely unacceptable."
