Samsung Galaxy S3 Update: How To Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Using Custom ROM Dirty Unicorns
Samsung Galaxy S3 can now be updated with the latest version of Android Lollipop.
According to Daily Sun Knoxville, a custom ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is currently available for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Specifically, the newly-developed Dirty Unicorn firmware can be used by Samsung Galaxy S3 users to update their smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 came with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich at launch. And officially, the smartphone can only be updated now with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
However, with the release of the Dirty Unicorn firmware, users can now experience the Lollipop goodies included. But first, Samsung Galaxy S3 users who wish to install the custom ROM need to make sure that they have the correct smartphone model.
The Daily Sun Knoxville's report specified that the Dirty Unicorns custom firmware is compatible with the GT-I9300 or the 3G model of the 2012 flagship device from the South Korean manufacturer. The phone also needs to be rooted.
Furthermore, to avoid interruptions during the installation process of the Dirty Unicorns ROM for the S3, it is necessary to have at least 80 percent battery power.
Also, it is imperative for Samsung Galaxy S3 users to create a backup first of all the data and settings stored on the smartphone before installing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM. The Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP tool can be utilized to back up all the important files.
Aside from the Android 5.1.1 custom ROM created by Dirty Unicorns, Galaxy S3 users should also download the GApps before installing the update. To do so, connect the smartphone to the PC via USB and then copy both the custom ROM and the GApps into the root folder of the storage card.
To begin installation, power down the smartphone and boot it using the Recovery Mode. To do this, S3 users simply need to hold down three buttons simultaneously, the Home, Volume Up and Power buttons.
Once the smartphone is in the Recovery Mode, back up all the data and wipe them through the "wipe data or factory reset" option as well as the "wipe cache partition. Afterwards, proceed with the installation by picking the "choosing zip from sdcard" and select the Dirty Unicorn custom ROM previously saved in the memory card.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 was launched in May 2012 with a Exynos 4412 chipset, according to GSM Arena's specs list for the smartphone. As for its other hardware specs, the Galaxy S3 is equipped with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHZ and the Mali - 400MP4 for the GPU.
