Bill Cosby Sex Assault Scandal News: Comedian Faces Deposition in Janice Dickinson Case
Bill Cosby has been ordered to appear for a deposition hearing on Nov. 23 as part of the ongoing defamation suit filed against him by former supermodel Janice Dickinson.
According to the LA Times, Dickinson's attorney Lisa Bloom confirmed the development on Wednesday, adding that she will handle the interrogations of both Cosby and his former lead attorney Martin Singer.
The 70-year-old Dickinson maintains both defamed her when they denied her claims that Cosby drugged and sexually attacked her in Lake Tahoe back in 1982. In all, more than 50 women have now come forward to lodge similar allegations against the "Cosby Show" dad, alleging that the attacks took place over a period that spans nearly five decades.
Cosby has denied all the allegations and has never been criminally charged. Earlier this year, he was forced to submit to a seven-hour deposition in yet another defamation suit filed by former Playboy bunny Judy Huth. That interrogation was handled by famed civil rights attorney Gloria Allred, who has already asked a criminal court judge for the opportunity to put the now 78-year-old Cosby under oath for a second time.
In rendering his ruling that allows for Cosby's interrogation, the judge rejected his legal team's motions to have the case dismissed, concluding that the case's validity boils down to whether the rape Dickinson alleges actually occurred. Cosby's attorneys have already filed an appeal to the ruling.
In all, five women have now sued Cosby for defamation related to their sexual abuse claims. The fallout from all the legal maneuvering has been catastrophic for Cosby, who still faces the possibility of being criminally charged in Pennsylvania.
In addition, several universities and other institutions have moved to strip the legendary comedian of various awards and honors bestowed on him over the years.
