Director James Gunn recently revealed one of the behind-the-scenes photos from the highly anticipated forthcoming Marvel Studios film, Guardians of the Galaxy, which features Karen Gillan's villainous character, Nebula.

Gunn took to his Instagram account to share the latest image of the Scottish actress completely transformed into the deadly space warrior, who he refers to as "our interplanetar Clint Eastwood." The snapshot sees Gillan shaved her signature red hair and covered in blue makeup.

"Truth is, I put her in the script largely because of her bald, cybernetic look," the director previously said on his Facebook page. "She probably wouldn't have been a character without that."

The remark follows after a fan asked if James Gunn had considered an older Nebula design from the original comics, which feature the alien with a full black hair. "I find little enchanting about that look," said Gunn. "Charlie Wen and I worked on this design for a long time, before we ever cast anyone. We knew exactly what we wanted."

He also mentioned that Gillan's look in the film, which the process took somewhere between four and five hours, was entirely practical with no CGI enhancements added: "Those are mostly three dimensional applications not just drawn on lines."

Fans and followers seem to like Karen Gillan in her Nebula role, as there were numerous positive comments written, such as: "A true actress will do whatever they must for a role they are dedicated to."

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to hit theaters on August 1.
