Xiaomi Mi5 Release Date & Specs: Next-Gen Flagship Coming With Snapdragon 820, While Mi Pad 2 Details Surface
The new Xiaomi Mi 5 will join the company's roster of smartphones that has exceeded expectations, even against bigger — and more experienced — handset producers. Its lauded predecessor Mi 4 hit the market over a year ago and now the spotlight turns to the Mi 5, which was recently announced as a device that carries the new Snapdragon 820.
According to a report from G for Games, a handset codenamed "Xiaomi Gemini" was spotted at the Geekbench database, believed to be the much-awaited Mi 5. The listing revealed the smartphone will carry "msm8996," which is reportedly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820's model number.
Other features of the Xiaomi Mi 5 based on the Geekbench listing include the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 3GB of RAM. There have been rumors that suggested the new Xiaomi device will be released on Dec. 3, but it's still uncertain whether the company can push through with the supposed schedule.
The upside to this recent leak is that the speculations of bad blood brewing between Xiaomi and Qualcomm are likely untrue. The beef is said to be over royalties, sparking rumors of Xiaomi turning to Mediatek processors for its new smartphones. However, Kevin Wang of iSuppli shut down the rumors on his Weibo page, according to a report from Gizmo China.
Wang spoke up about the issues, saying the relationship between the two companies is still very good, especially after the handset maker recently hired former Qualcomm China's president Wang Xiang. He added that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 will certainly carry Snapdragon 820 under the hood.
Meanwhile, another Xiaomi device was also spotted on Geekbench, revealing more details about the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2, the company's next tablet offer. The market has been buzzing about this product for a while and now it's confirmed to be powered by Intel while running on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
According to a report from Phone Radar, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will also be equipped with 2GB of RAM, and likely 16GB of storage space like many budget tablets. Reports have said that the device will have a metal frame and feature glass in the front and back.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro has also been seen in a TENAA listing, confirming several features including a metal body and a fingerprint sensor, Gizmo China reported. It's also said to sport a 5.5-inch FHD display, MT6795 Helio X10 and Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Other features of the Redmi Note 2 Pro include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13-megapixel rear camera, five-megapixel front camera and a 3,060 mAh battery.
