In the time it takes to belt out your favorite medley, "The Voice" Season 9 field was dramatically cut from 24 to 12 contestants during Monday night's episode 17 "Live Performances" airing.

Entertainment Weekly reports while America's picks for who got to remain and who didn't were pretty predictable, as always the judges left viewers scratching and shaking their heads in disbelief based on some of the saves they chose to invoke.

Judge Gwen Stefani took her eyes off admitted main squeeze and fellow judge Blake Shelton long enough to open things ups, somewhat shocking viewers with her save pick of Korin Bukowski over Regina Love and Victor Kiraly. Bukowski thus joined viewer picks of Jeffrey Austin and Braiden Sunshine in composing Team Gwen's final rostrum.

Next up came Shelton, and after host Carson Daly revealed America's picks of Barrett Baber and Zach Seabaugh, a philosophical Shelton announced he was adding Emily Ann Roberts, leaving many fans to bemoan the sudden ousters of Ivonne Acero and country-styled crooner Morgan Frazier.

Team Pharrell was next up on the chopping block and things started off predictably enough with America's selection of Evan McKeel. But the pick of Madi Davis over Darius Scott threw many for a loop and the shock was only exacerbated when the wildly unpredictable Williams went with Mark Hood with his save over Scott.

The final group of six to take the stage was Team Adam, and the standout tandem of Jordan Smith and Shelby Brown were instant picks of the viewers. Levine then turned a few heads with his coach's pick of Amy Vachal over Chance Pena.

Before the night was over, all the survivors got to see the see and hear the performer they're all striving to be. Season 8 teen winner Sawyer Fredericks was on hand to perform his new single "Take It All."
