One unlucky woman was attacked by a shark the very first time that she ever stepped into the ocean.

The attack occurred when Jill Kruse of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was vacationing in Florida with her family at Cocoa Beach.

However, within 10 minutes of stepping into the ocean for the first time in her life, she felt a shark bite into her leg.

"I was excited but also nervous at the same time, almost like I knew something was going to go wrong," the 28-year-old told KDVR Fox 31.

Fortunately, she managed to escape the shark's grasp, only to find that she was bleeding profusely and unable to stand up.

"I tried to walk back because I saw the pool of blood and knew I needed to get out of there, but I couldn't stand," she said.

Once she was assisted back to land, she realized that her calf muscles were protruding out of her skin.

"My calf was ripped away from my bone so the muscle was hanging there. There was a big gash. Basically my muscle was hanging from my leg," she said.

All the while, Kruse says she was worried about her four young nieces who were traumatized by her injury.

"They were a wreck," she said.

After paramedics showed up to rush her to the hospital, she underwent surgery.

"I remember them stitching up my hand, asking questions, and then waking up in the recovery room," she said.

Despite her gruesome attack, Kruse says she still plans to one day return to the beach and take her first real swim in the ocean.

"I think I will probably go back in the water, but it will be a while," she said. "What are the chances of being bit twice, right?"
