‘EA Sports UFC 2’ Features Ronda Rousey on the Cover, Game’s Cover Curse Strikes Again
EA Sports UFC 2 has gotten fans pumped up, including its cover athlete UFC star Ronda Rousey. However, the former champion might not be so psyched about the honor now after losing her undefeated title last weekend.
According to a report from For The Win, the EA Sports series have spurred talk of a "cover curse" with cover athletes of previous installments of Madden taking significant career hits, and now it seems as if the curse is alive and well with Rousey's recent loss to Holly Holm.
The shocking loss drew criticism from spectators, with speculation emerging of the female athlete's possible retirement. Recently, Rousey spoke up to address the rumors on her social media account.
"I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support," Rousey wrote on Instagram. "I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I'm fine. As I had mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back."
Good news for the fans, Rousey will be taking a break to recuperate, but she has plans of hitting the ring once more. But while it can take a while for the UFC star to get back on her feet for another match, EA Sports UFC 2 will be able to give hardcore fans a good taste of their favorite sport.
The upcoming sequel is still some time away, but EA has spoken freely about the upgrades of the sports video game this time around. Among other improvements, EA Sports UFC senior producer Brian Hayes revealed that the graphics will be more realistic in the second installment.
"The game being really, really, really, ridiculously good-looking is important to us, and the team is always working to find ways to outdo themselves," Hayes said in an interview with GameSpot. "That includes updates to the in-game lighting, the facial animation system and lots of new physics and rendering details. It all comes together in the in-fight replays, where you can really see the fighter flinch a moment before a huge strike lands, sending ripples across their face, and how their hair whips around with the force of the blow."
As the first game's on the ground fighting or "in the clinch" proved to be too challenging for the fanbase, Hayes added that this has been corrected saying, "So for UFC 2 we put a big focus on improving the grappling controls, providing a better on-boarding experience, and giving players plenty of ways to learn how to master the game."
EA Sports UFC 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is slated for release in 2016.
