OnePlus One owner can now experience the latest Android update through a custom ROM. PACMAN firmware based on the latest Android OS is now available.

International Business Times reported that a new custom firmware created by a senior member of XDA Developer Forum was released, allowing OnePlus One users to update their smartphone with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. But because it is still an experimental version, users planning to install the firmware update are warned of possible bugs and glitches present in the PACMAN ROM.

Developed by Flyod_Flivercod, the PACMAN ROM compatible for the OnePlus One brings in the Doze feature. According to official Android website, this battery-conserving key feature of the Android Marshmallow puts the device into a "sleep state" when it is not being used.

As further described by a previous report from Techno Buffalo, Doze blocks all the specified apps from running in the background when the screen is off. This gives the users a few more hours of battery life each day.

Furthermore, the PACMAN ROM update also offers "a faster Chrome browser, a more intuitive Now on Tap feature" as well as "a new security-feature-verified boot system," IB Times added. Users who will install the Android 6.0 Marshmallow on OnePlus One via the PACMAN custom firmware will also find support for additional international dialects and other features enhancing the user experience.

To install the PACMAN custom ROM, it is important to make sure first that the users have the One Plus One unit or the Bacon model. Check the specific model by going to Settings Menu, tapping About Phone and looking for Model Number.

It should be noted using the custom firmware to incompatible smartphones might cause damage to them. Also, the OnePlus One needs to be rooted before proceeding with the installation.

The TWRP tool or ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery is also essential to create a backup of all the significant data and settings stored in the device. Battery level should be at least 80 percent of more to avoid interruptions while the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is ongoing.
