The second season of "Breaking Bad" prequel series spin off "Better Call Saul" has been scheduled for a winter premiere and is set to have even more ties to the original AMC series.

According to Deadline, the official winter premiere date for Season 2 will be the day after Valentine's day, Feb. 15, 2016. After the show's breakout hit earlier this year with its first season, the show has a lot of promise for its sophomore year, with many possible angles to expand upon.

The story follows Jimmy McGill, aka Saul (Bob Odenkirk), a semi-villainous attorney. In "Breaking Bad," the protagonist cooks the books for the legendary Walter White (Bryan Cranston), also known Heisenberg in the fictional drug world.

In the years before his encounter with White, Saul was a slimy lawyer who would do anything to get ahead or make a buck. In the first season of the spin-off series, he attempted to find a legitimate route to the top by joining a big law firm. Ultimately, his temptations led him back into the underground world where he thrives.

The series became an instant breakout hit, given that its predecessor ushered it in with two simultaneous Emmy wins for best drama series in the final two seasons. That gave "Saul" enough momentum to come right out of the gate with 5.9 million viewers, making it the No. 1 new series of the year at the time. It would later be eclipsed by the massive premiere of another spin-off series on the same network, "Fear the Walking Dead."

Executive producer and showrunner for the series Peter Gould had a few things to say about Season 2 to Deadline.

"Jimmy McGill's journey takes surprising, left-handed turns in Season 2 of 'Better Call Saul,'" Gould said. "He goes to places we'd never, ever expected. As for Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), he's pulled deeper into a world he was sure he'd left forever."
