It looks like the "Fast and Furious" franchise has a lot more left in the tank. While there are three sequels lined up in the main storyliine, the team behind the franchise has recently revealed that there are prequels and spin-offs in development to expand the existing universe.

According to a report from Variety, the entire "Fast and Furious" team is on the same page in terms of franchise direction, confirming plans for more films in the future. Although nothing specific has been revealed so far, they spoke candidly of their desire to expand the story.

"We've written out story lines for various characters," franchise star Vin Diesel told Variety. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class."

Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley backed the actor, saying, "We're certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It's an ensemble cast and there's room to bring characters in and out."

There have been seven "Fast and Furious" films, but the chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group believes there's still room to create more films and stories.

"It's at its peak now," Shell pointed out. "By the way, internationally something people forget is yes, this is 'Furious 7,' but probably half the people around the globe that saw 'Furious 7' hadn't seen any of the other 'Fast and Furious' films in the theater. It's new in China to them, it's new in Russia to them, it's new in most of Latin America, so this is a series that's accelerating in my view, not slowing down."

The seventh installment was the most successful in the franchise's history, being the first to hit the billion-dollar mark. Certainly, the "Fast and Furious" series shows no signs of slowing down.

Now, much of the team's efforts are directed at the three upcoming sequels that have already been confirmed. Executives and Diesel have all hinted at a different tone in the next installment, with the participation of "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray.

However, new elements introduced in the upcoming sequel, things will be undeniably different without the other franchise star on the big screen. A report from Australia Network News mulled over a speculation of Walker's character being in CGI, but executives deny the rumors.

"Paul won't be in it, but he'll be represented in some form or another but whether his image is in it, I can't tell you yet, but he won't be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time," NBC Universal Vice President Ron Meyer said. "It will still be 'Fast and Furious,' it will just be without Paul."
