Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan and her husband, music producer Emilio Estefan, will be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Nov. 24.

The couple are just two of the 17 people who will honored by President Barack Obama for their contributions to American culture and society through their crafts.

The couple began their careers as members of the Miami Machine Sound. Gloria Estefan has sold over 100 million records and is one of the first Latino artist to make the crossover between Spanish and English music. Together with her music producer husband, the Estefans have a total of 26 Grammy Awards.

Along with the Estefans, other entertainers being honored include Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Stephen Sondheim, James Taylor and violinist Itzhak Perlman.

"I look forward to presenting these 17 distinguished Americans with our nation's highest civilian honor," President Obama said, reported NBC News.

"From public servants who helped us meet defining challenges of our time to artists who expanded our imaginations ... these men and women have enriched our lives and helped define our shared experience as Americans."

Other honorees include baseball legends Willie Mays and Yogi Berra and politicians Sen. Barbara Milkulski, former Rep. Lee Hamilton, Shirley Chisholm, who was the first African-American woman elected to Congress, mathematician Katherine G. The documentary, produced by Tommy Mottola, also featured Latin superstars Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Shakira, Thalía, Ricky Martin, Rita Moreno and Sofia Vergara, to name a few.

The Estefans have also been celebrating the success of their Broadway production "On Your Feet," which focuses on their relationship and careers and features Gloria Estefan's biggest hits.
