Netflix Releases Trailer For Animated Comedy ‘F is for Family,’ Set in 1973 [Watch]
A new animated comedy is coming to Netflix sure to please mature audiences with tons of laughter. "F is for Family" comes from the headlining comedy of Bill Burr, and based on the nature of the newly released trailer, it is specifically for mature audiences only.
According to Deadline, the trailer features the old animated visual style of "King of the Hill." Although there is no clear red-band warning before the trailer starts, viewers should be aware it is filled with numerous expletives and sexual references.
The beginning of the trailer shows a commercial for "White House Beer" that has the tagline "The draft you won't want to dodge," followed by an infographic that says "America 1973."
It is the clear start to a show that takes place just after the counter-culture revolution that shaped the late '60s and segued into a new America of the 1970s. The show seems to be filled with the old misogynistic characteristics and even a few racist stereotypes inherent during the era.
Several scenes show the main character, voiced by Bill Burr, in situations where he uses backwoods logic as a way to lead his family. Most of his dialogue is filled with offensive lines followed by four-letter words.
The family seems to be a normal family, or at least normal for that period of time, in several situations that even come up in today's society. But they were handled by this cliché portrayal of the family patriarch in such vulgar and offensive ways people in today's society would never stand for it.
The man also had a tender side to him, shown in the way he loved his children and wife, even if he was demeaning her role as a breadwinner, classifying it as a "project."
The series also features the voice talents of Laura Dern, Justin Long and Sam Rockwell. It is set to premiere on Netflix on Dec. 18.
