'Forza Motorsport 6' Release Date, Gameplay & Trailer: Microtransactions, Tokens as Payment in Game
Turn 10 Studios may have a change of heart after they recently announced the inclusion of microtransactions in "Forza Motorsport 6" using tokens.
According to the Video Gamer, Turn 10 Studios previously rejected the idea of the said feature unless players will ask for it. The studio's content director Bill Wendl said in his interview on ShackNews, "The only way microtransactions would come back is if sometime in the lifecycle, players are asking for it, just as an option or something like that." Apparently, it didn't take much prodding before they finally come to terms and eventually include it in the game.
The tokens are mainly used to buy some of the latest upgrades, cars and mod cards for the game. TeamVVV said that during the game, players can use real money to buy tokens in order to purchase the type of upgrade they want.
Currently, the game utilizes in-game credits, where 500 credits is equivalent to one token. "Forza Motorsport 6" features the most expensive car in the game, which is the Ferrari 250 GTO and it costs 2,000,000 credits to get it. If players rely on credits to eventually have the car, they will need a total of 4,000 tokens.
The microtransaction feature will allow players to easily get the most expensive car using real money to buy the equivalent number of tokens. This will somehow save them from playing countless hours for credits just to save up for one expensive car.
The Xbox Website has the full list of the "Forza Motorsport 6" token prices, which are as follows:
- 100 Forza Motorsport 6 tokens for $0.99
- 325 tokens for $2.99, 575 tokens for $4.99
- 1,250 tokens for $9.99, 2,700 tokens for $19.99
- 8,000 tokens for 49.99
- 20,000 tokens for 99.99.
The microtransaction feature has been a hot issue, especially in free-to-play games, but with the current trend of triple-A games coming to the scene, microtransactions became a widespread feature on mobile games.
Currently, popular games such as "Halo 5: Guardians" and "Destiny" recently launched the addition of microtransactions in the game, and it won't be long before others will follow suit. Microtransactions allow players to use real money in order to buy the features they want on a certain game without having to earn credits through extensive challenges.
"Forza Motorsport 6" was released on Sep. 15 and its microtransaction feature was launched on Nov. 13.
Do you agree on the microtransaction features on free-to-play games and its addition on AAA games? How much are you willing to spend for your favorite game?
