Jenni Rivera's doctor has revealed that the legendary singer had breast cancer. He also called her a great example of how to handle the life threatening disease.

According to TVNotas, doctor Carlos Buenrostro revealed that Rivera learned of her cancer at an early stage, managing to treat it because she payed attention to her body and health.

"She is a great example of the fight against breast cancer, she was responsible and she did what she needed to do," Buenrostro said in an interview.

"It was something easy because we found the tumor when it was small and we got rid of it," added Buenrostro, who, along with an oncologist in Tijuana, Baja California, conducted the surgery on Rivera.

In 2011, the iconic singer had surgery for a tumor that was found in one of her breasts, but she wasn't very vocal about her health after the surgery. The only person in the Rivera family who opened up about her health was her father Pedro Rivera.

Like many of Jenni Rivera's family members and fans, Buenrostro explained that he feels like Rivera is still alive, reported Televisa Espectaculos.

"I feel that she will suddenly appear. In my head and in my heart she continues to exist. Without making it cheap or wrong, I do believe that her energy is still here," he added.

The Rivera family has continued to keep the singer's presence alive in various way since her sudden death.

In October, the book "Jenni Vive: Unforgettable Baby!" was released, featuring never-before-seen photos, journal entries and handwritten letters to her children.

The book discussed the star's career, family and love life. It surprisingly revealed that the singer considered a man named Fernando to be her one true love, reported Terra.

"He was the love of her life," her daughter, Chiquis Rivera, revealed. "He was the lover with whom she had an on-and-off relationship for 10 years."
