NBA 2K16 will be offered for free to Xbox One Gold subscribers this weekend. The full game can be downloaded starting Friday at noon ET.

With Xbox One Gold's Free Play Days, NBA 2K16 will be offered to Xbox One Gold subscribers for free play for the entire weekend, Polygon reports.

NBA 2K16 is currently tied for the highest-rated sports game on Metacritic for consoles. Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is the other sports game that shares the top spot.

During the free trial, Xbox One Gold subscribers will be able to play all of the modes for NBA 2K16. The new story mode, called "Livin' Da Dream," proceeds the MyCareer mode. Players will be able to start this mode and create their own characters. Players will also be able to participate in the competitive/cooperative 2K Pro-Am multiplayer mode.

To encourage Xbox One Gold subscribers to keep playing after their trials are over, the game will be discounted after the weekend ends. Additionally, all of the progress that players have made during their free trials will be saved and carried over if they decide to purchase the game.

Players will not have to re-download the game if they decide to purchase it after the trial weekend ends. This is good news for players because the game is a 44.86GB download.

NBA 2K16 is updated regularly with patches and player ranking adjustments. When players see errors or glitches in the game, they are encouraged to report them so that they can be fixed with patch updates.

Player rankings are updated based on the real-life performance of NBA players after each game. If a player goes through a slump, his NBA 2K16 overall rating will be knocked down at least one point.

NBA 2K16 normally sells for $59.99 for the Xbox One. Upcoming Black Friday deals will offer the game for as little as $27 (Walmart).
