Facebook is testing new tools to make breakups a little less painful.

The social media platform will offer ways for members to limit what they are shown by the site about their ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends, Tech Crunch reports.

The new breakup tools will debut on U.S. mobile devices starting Thursday. Based on feedback and testing, the features could be rolled out to more users in the future, Facebook announced.

Instead of blocking or unfriending their exes, Facebook users will be able to select options to "see less" from their former significant others. They will also be able to limit the things they share with their exes in the future.

Previous posts that included the ex can be altered or deleted as well. This could help when users browse their old Facebook posts and memories, only to see tons of pictures and posts about their exes. Facebook will allow members to limit their exes from their newsfeed as well. This means fewer posts from the ex who may be posting about a new boyfriend or girlfriend.

Automatic tagging suggestions and message reminders will also be limited. These reminders would otherwise alert users to identify their exes in pictures.

The users' exes will not know that they are making these changes. This is a much better solution than blocking or de-friending, as those actions are obvious to other Facebook users.

Future posts can also be restricted to a select audience, meaning a user's ex will only see the posts that are marked as public or those that he or she is tagged in.

After changing their status from in a relationship to single, users can access the new breakup tools. They can make individual adjustments to pictures they are tagged in, or make changes in bulk.
