A custom ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has been released for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. CarHDRom is now available.

According to GSM Arena, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge came out of the box with pre-installed Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Currently, the 2015 smartphone from the South Korean tech giant is officially upgradable to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

However, more adventurous Android users can also opt to use a custom firmware to update their Galaxy S6 Edge with the latest Lollipop iteration. And to guarantee a successful update process via the CarHDRom ROM, users need to meet several requirements first.

One of the most vital steps to make before proceeding to install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via the CarHDRom is to verify the handset device's model number. Team Android specified that the CarHDRom ROM update is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge bearing the model number SM-G925W8.

Checking the model number is easy. Edge 6 owners can navigate to Settings, tap the About Phone option and then look for Model Number.

Prior to installing the custom ROM update, it is also essential to create a backup for all the important files and settings stored on the device. And this can easily be done through the use or recommended recovery tools such as ClockWorkMod or TWRP.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge owners should be prepared to the possibility that installing a custom ROM such as CarHDRom to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge can wipe out the phone's memory. Thus, ensuring a proper backup before making any updates is necessary.

Those who are also interested to update their Galaxy S6 Edge via a custom ROM should know that any unofficial updates automatically void the warranty available for the device. Furthermore, the smartphone should have at least 85% battery level to avoid power interruptions during the installation.

Owners also need to download and save the CarHDRom custom ROM as well as the Google Apps (GApps) zip files on the root directory of the device. To do so, download it first on the PC and transfer to the Galaxy S6 Edge via USB port and then save the files into the root directory of the phone or the SD card.

After successfully acquiring the installation files, turn off the smartphone and disconnect it from the PC. Access the Recovery Mode by pressing the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.

In Recovery Mode, Samsung Galaxy S6 users have to remove the mobile device's memory first by choosing the "wipe cache partition." Go back to the recovery screen and then pick "install zip from SD card" where you will be prompted to choose the CarHDRom ROM that was earlier saved in the SD.

Installation process will commence after this and once the update process is successful, Samsung S6 Edge users need to restart the device. Tap the "reboot system now" option from the recovery screen.
