Arnold Schwarzennegger Pet Pig: The True Story Behind the Terminator's 300 lb. Pound Hog
If you're a fan of Macklemore, then you'll certainly know the lyrics to his Grammy award winning hit single "Thrift Shop" ft. Wanz.
Yes, this is an article about Arnold Schwarzennegger, but hear us out.
One of the more memorable parts of the amazing (and half-billion-plus viewed) Macklemore song & music video goes something like this:
"They had a broken keyboard, I bought a broken keyboard
I bought a skeet blanket, then I bought a pig named bacon."
The actual lyrics can be found here.
Wait what...? Macklemore didn't buy a pig, though he probably would've if the thrift shop sold 'em. After all, he did buy a onesie! So who actually bought a pig?
That would be none other than Arnie himself. That's right, the former Mr. Universe turned Terminator turned Governator turned not-quite-yet divorcee purchased a pig after becoming enamored with one owned by his friend George Clooney. So Schwarzennegger struck up a conversation with the former ER star while the two were starring in the infamous 1997 Joel Schumacher film Batman & Robin.
"I always liked that he was into pigs, he has this little pig that he takes everywhere," the Austrian-born actor told Yahoo! Movies. "So I bought a pig right after that."
The story gets better: "His name is Bacon," Schwarzenegger revealed, and "he's on the fat farm right now."
Of course, Schwarzennegger went on to buy a pig himself. Yet, he didn't know how much of a burden owning it would become. Going back to another cheesy Macklemore reference, the pig was stuck to Arnold like velcro after it ballooned in weight. "... I must've bought the wrong one because in no time it was 300 pounds and I could barely lift the son of the gun," he recalled. He also couldn't get rid off it; his kids totally loved Bacon and helped fuel the weight gain by feeding it all the time.
So he "... called George, [and] said, 'What happened?' I said, 'My pig's belly is touching the ground when it runs around.' He said, 'You're feeding it too much.'"
