Newly crowned World Boxing Council middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez wants a rematch with undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. Likewise, Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes "Canelo," also desires his boxer to face Mayweather soon. He is even willing to schedule it in May 2016.

Alvarez, the young Mexican fighter, defeated the veteran Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas via a unanimous decision, New York Times reported.

Right after the fight, "Canelo" stated that he just wanted a much-deserved break to savor his victory but is also looking into the possibility of having another ring encounter with Mayweather if he decides to return in the game, Fight Hype noted. If it happens, Alvarez believes that he is more prepared this time, unlike when he first met him in September 2013 at the MGM Grand Arena and lost via a majority decision, per BoxRec.

"I'm ready...if he wants to return, let him return...all this is experience for me because the fight coming up will be better for me," the WBC titlist said.

This would not come as a surprise to any boxing fan. The 25-year-old boxer was consistent of this intention. He already shared this desire to have another shot at "The Money" after the unbeaten boxer announced his retirement in May and was still picking his opponent for his 49th and farewell fight, Boxing News 24 noted.

"I would love it [a rematch with Mayweather]. It would interest me, I've learned more things, there's more experience," Alvarez said in May.

De La Hoya echoed the same goal "Canelo" had for his next fight, Boxing Scene noted.

"Well, we would be open to it - absolutely. I'm sure Canelo would love to he opportunity. Like I said right now, Canelo is the man right now... he is fighting in May and September...if Mayweather wants to fight him -- we can discuss that in the future."

The promoter will gladly reserve the month of May for a Mayweather-Canelo bout in case "The Money" gives his go signal, per another Fight Hype report. However, the Hall-of-Fame-boxer-turned-promoter knows that it is really up to Mayweather if he would decide to come back and fight the new WBC champ.

Yet, "Canelo" should also prepare to face the unbeaten Kazakh warrior Gennady Golovkin, who is the WBC's mandatory challenger. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman already maintained that whoever gets to hold the crown will have to immediately face "Triple G," Boxing Scene noted.
