A new digital rangefinder camera from Leica is now available. The Leica M Type 262 is regarded as "return to the basics" camera for having essential functions for photography.

Leica recently unveiled its newest model for the M lineup. According to Tech Times, the Leica M Type 262, priced at $5195, offers the essential features of rangefinder photography.

The report also cited the remarkable features of the new Leica M camera. Type 262 is strong with its 24-MP CMOS sensor the Maestro image processor.

Photographers will be able to produce images that offer a resolution as high as 5952 x 3976 pixels. The new version of Leica M also supports shooting in JPEG and RAW.

Because of the powerful camera sensor specs, the images provide "outstanding contrast, exceptionally detailed resolution and low image noise." Partnered with the Maestro processor, Leica users can expect fast processing of the captured images as well as "immediate readiness to shoot."

As for the display, the Leica M type 262 has a 3-inch monitor protected by the scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.

As described on Leica's official website, the Leica M Type 262 "embodies the M-Philosophy in its purest form: with a focus on the functions essential for photography."

Together with these new essential features, the camera also provides a "clear and intuitive handling." The Leica M Type 262 is also regarded as one of the most compact, full-frame system cameras available.

It is also made compatible with the best lenses known in the world and the camera is perfect for shooting in various light situations for its ISO values. Accordingly, it supports up to 6400 ISO.

"It is the essence of M-Photography. The perfect camera for experiencing the fascination of the M in its purest form," the official site further described the new camera.

The Leica M, besides its "unobtrusive looks" also offers a "barely audible shutter" to assure maximum discretion, especially when aiming for candid photographs. Specifically, the description said that in single exposure mode, the shutter cocking system is quieter compared to that of a previous Leica M model, the Type 240 as it "enables a shutter release frequency of up to two frames per second."
