Ford Recalls 2015: Fusion, Mercury Milan Sedans Recalled for Faulty Fuel Tanks
Ford consumers in North America may be affected with the company's latest announcement on two safety recalls.
According to Ford Media Center, although they are not aware of any accidents caused by these problems, they still announced the recall and cited the problems.
The company's statement said, "Ford issues safety recall for certain 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles in North America for potential fuel tank issue."
Around 450,000 combined units of 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan is in danger of having the fuel tank issues. Apparently, some of these units may have a "canister purge valve that does not work properly." This problem could cause internal pressure inside the fuel tank that may eventually lead to fuel leak.
If you own any of these two vehicles, here are the specific manufacturers of the said units that are subject for a recall. A 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan assembled at Hermosillo Assembly Plant may be affected by the recall. It covers the date from July 21, 2008 to March 4, 2011. Most of these units were sold in North America, listing at least 411, 205 vehicles sold in this region. Canada has at least 33,605 units already in the hands of its customers and at least 7,055 units have been sold in Mexico.
Ford aims to fix the problem by letting users bring their cars to their dealer stores, where they will work on updating the powertrain control module software, perform an inspection on the fuel tank and canister purge valve, and replace everything that's necessary for free.
Meanwhile, Automotive News reported that Ford is also recalling 13 2016 F-650 medium-duty trucks in the U.S. for some issues regarding its steering column. AutoBlog also mentioned the second recall from Ford noted that the F-650 trucks encountered problems on the column shifter, which may eventually lead to the truck rolling away on its own. Such issues will need some steering column replacement and reconfiguration of the instrument panel.
The 13 F-650 trucks built in Ohio from July 9 to Sept. 3 this year are the ones being recalled by Ford. According to the company, all of these F-650 trucks are currently in the U.S.
