Taco Bell is hoping to get a share in the breakfast market, a big percentage of which is dominated by McDonald's. The morning treats of Taco Bell were introduced last Thursday and includes the much publicized A.M. Crunchwrap and Waffle Taco.

The A.M. Crunchwrap seems to the more popular item. It features a crusty warm tortilla with hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese. Customers have a choice of steak or sausage instead of the bacon. It is a little spicy and tastes like refried beans served with a packet of hot sauce. The A.M. Crunchwrap costs $2.59, which is described as an "eats-like-a-meal-steal."

The Waffle Taco is another one of the well-advertised breakfast treats from Taco Bell. This meal consists of a sausage patty or bacon wrapped in a waffle with cheese and scrambled eggs and syrup on the side. The Waffle Taco is similar to a McGriddle. The filling is nice with the melted cheese and fluffy eggs, while the waffle has a chewy texture. Do not be surprised when you get the taco, as it is very thin. The contents, however, are more than enough for the price of $1.99.

The best breakfast treat is Taco Bell's Cinnabon Delights. It consists of four warm, doughnut-hole pastries with glazed cream filling (a signature of Cinnabon). These bite-sized pastries have grainy cinnamon sugar bits as toppings. It is so delicious at only $1.69.

Taco Bell has 14 items in their breakfast menu, with prices ranging from $1 to $2.49. Their prices are competitive even a little cheaper when compared to that of other competitors.

Breakfast meal prices of competitors are as follows:

  • McDonald's breakfast sandwiches -- $2.79 to $3.39
  • Subway small sandwiches -- $2.50 to $2.75
  • Starbucks -- $2.95 to $4.45

Taco Bell serves breakfast from 7 to 11 in the morning. McDonald's starts at 6:30 a.m. and plans to extend their breakfast hours or even have it served throughout the day.

The Egg McMuffin rules in McDonald's breakfast menu at present. The entrance of Taco Bell in the fast food breakfast market may give the Egg McMuffin some stiff competition.

In answer to this Breakfast War, McDonald's is offering customers a free 12-ounce McCafé coffee. Coffee is also available with Taco Bell's breakfast, but customers have to pay for it.
