Journalist and television host Piers Morgan said goodbye to viewers on the set of his show's final episode with CNN.

Morgan's show replaced the legendary Larry King Live television segment on the CNN network. However, due to lackluster ratings, Morgan's outspoken anti-gun opinion, and his involvement in the British phone hacking scandal, CNN was forced to cancel the show.

The final show aired on Friday and began as a sentimental departure, with Morgan saying, "We gave everything we had and loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute of it."

But then things turned into a completely different direction. What started off as a short and sweet signoff, ended in a long rant by Morgan stating his already publicized opinion on gun control and the NRA.

"I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theater, and then, just a few months later, 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, the absurd gun laws in this country would change. But nothing has happened.

"The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation's politicians into cowardly, supine silence. Even when 20 young children are blown away in their classrooms. This is a shameful situation that has made me very angry. So angry, in fact, that some people have criticized me for being too loud, opinionated, even rude when I have debated the issue of guns. But I make no apologies for that."

Morgan ended the rant with "I'm so pro-American I want more of you to stay alive."

So what's next for the outspoken British journalist? Well, the answer to that remains to be seen. Morgan will be heading back to England for now. Today also marks the birthday of the former America's Got Talent host. Happy Birthday, Piers!
