"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" is the last of the "Hunger Games" series, and it has brought the franchise on top of box office sales for two consecutive weeks.

A press release from Rentrak said, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" holds the top spot with $113.6 million since Sunday, Nov. 29. It was followed by 'The Good Dinosaur' with a record of $67.9 million on its weekend countdown."

According to USA Today, the Hollywood circle thinks that the $102.7 million opening of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" is the lowest among the "Hunger Games" movies, but the sequel has actually earned $440.7 million worldwide.

"The Hunger Games" franchise is quite new in the world of films, and for it to be nearing its $3 billion mark is something to celebrate. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" was able to make a stronghold on the box office, keeping "The Good Dinosaur" and boxing drama "Creed." Rentrak's top 12 domestic weekend box office estimates put Sony's "Spectre" on the fourth spot at $12.8 million and 20th Century Fox's "The Peanuts Movie" on the fifth spot at an estimated $9.7 million sales.

"The Night Before" by Sony also listed an $8.2 million, landing on the sixth spot, whereas "Secret in Their Eyes" garnered $4.5 million during the weekend. Open Road's "Spotlight" earned $4.5 million and Fox Searchlight's "Brooklyn" landed on the ninth spot at $3.8 million. The Martian is now on the 10th place with $3.3 million and Lionsgate's "Love the Coopers" ranked 11th at $3.0 million. The 12th spot went to 20th Century Fox's "Victor Frankenstein" with $2.4 million.

ComingSoon reported that "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" dominated the Thanksgiving weekend. The "Mockingjay - Part 2" with its $75.8 million Thanksgiving record, surpassed its previous series,  "Mockingjay - Part 1," which only earned $57 million during the same time last year.

The movie grossed $198 million after 10 days in theaters whereas "Mockingjay - Part 1" grossed $225.7 million in almost the same time frame. Apparently, Katniss Everdeen's last stand has given the franchise a whole new meaning to saving the best for last.

Apart from the "Hunger Games" franchise, Jennifer Lawrence also worked with writer/director David O. Russell in three movies: "Silver Linings Playbook," "American Hustle" and "Joy." She also revealed that she would probably work with the writer/director until he dies, MTV reports.
