Apple Watch 2: Next Apple Watch to Allow Video Calls, Rely Less on iPhone
The first Apple Watch was exciting and had elegant looks, but there are always ways to improve an existing product. The Apple Watch 2 plans to work off the success of the original Apple Watch and make some improvements as well.
The next Apple Watch, likely called the Apple Watch 2, could be released in September at the same time the next iPhone is released, Tech Radar reports.
The Apple Watch 2 could wait until September for its release, but it could also follow the original's release and be announced in March and released in April.
The original Apple Watch used the company Quanta for the supplier. The chairman of Quanta has hinted that the next Apple Watch will be released sometime in the second quarter of 2016.
"Quanta and Apple are currently developing the second-generation of the Apple Watch, expected late next year in the second quarter," Chairman Barry Lam of Quanta said.
With the next Apple Watch, the device is expected to rely less on a nearby iPhone. Instead, it will be able to perform multiple tasks on its own. For example, the Apple Watch will be able to make FaceTime audio calls right from the watch.
If the watch becomes lost, it will have the technology inside it necessary so that it can be located using WiFi triangulation.
A source told Phone Arena that the Apple Watch 2 will also have a video camera. This means the Apple Watch 2 will be able to make and receive FaceTime video calls in addition to just audio calls.
There may be a few additional models added to the Apple Watch lineup too. Instead of just the Apple Watch standard, Sport and Edition models, buyers might have the option of titanium, platinum and Liquidmetal versions.
The look of the Apple Watch 2 will not change from the original. It will not be offered in a circular size and the resolution will remain the same, according to a recent leak.
While the watch will look just the same as the original, the Apple Watch 2 will make several improvements and will rely less on the iPhone, making it even more valuable.
