Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 can now be updated with the latest Android Lollipop version. A custom ROM has been released for the tablet, particularly the Galaxy Tab 2 units bearing the model number P5110, Team Android's report revealed.

According to GSM Arena, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110 model does not support cellular connectivity, meaning GSM voice communication, SMS and MMS functionalities are now available. The tablet was released in the market on May 2012.

Officially, the tablet is only upgradable to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but thanks to custom Android developers, users of this 2012 Samsung Galaxy slate will be able to experience perks found on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. According to Team Android, Candy5 custom ROM offers 360 Degree rotation as well as HeadsUp.

Those who will install the update can expect a smooth and stable performance from Candy5 custom firmware based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. However, because it is not an official release, users are warned to take extra precautions when they decide to flash the ROM.

Before installing the firmware, users need to ascertain first that they have the right model compatible for the update. Again, Candy5 ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update should only be installed to P5110model.

To check, users can simply go to Settings > About Phone > Model Number. Once they are sure of the model number, the next thing to check is the battery, which should have at least 80 percent before proceeding to install the Android update.

Another requirement before flashing Candy5 ROM is a recovery tool, which will be used to create the proper backup for all the essential data and settings stored on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. ClockWorkMod Recovery or CWM and the TeamWin Recovery Project or TWRP are the custom recovery tools usually recommended by experts.
