A number of top shows will be honored at the 73rd annual Peabody Awards set to take place May 19.

The Peabody Award winners were selected from more than a thousand entries and cover shows that have become famous both on the television screen and on the web. Some of the winners include Scandal, House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, Breaking bad, and many more that made up the list of 46 recipients.

"The quality of storytelling in electronic media continues to increase year-after-year, across platforms, producing organizations and nations," Jeffrey P. Jones, the director of the Peabody Awards, said in an announcement on Wednesday morning. "The unprecedented number of awards we gave this year reflects this fact. There simply are a larger number of stories that deserve our attention as citizens and consumers. And what a wonderfully rich and satisfying set of stories we've called attention to this year!"

Many of the aforementioned shows have already won a number of awards, and what separates them from many shows in history is the cross-platform diversity. While Breaking Bad was on AMC, it blew up in popularity once it hit Netflix. Many people who do not have access to cable -- particularly college students -- are still able to watch the show on Netflix at any time. Another one of the shows, Orange Is the New Black, became popular on Netflix, and its success has been impressive considering that it is exclusively on Netflix and not on television.
