Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update: New Custom ROM Released for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Features New Battery Mode
An unofficial Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is now available for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Users can opt to install a custom ROM called Alex-V.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was released on the market in April 2015, as posted on GSM Arena. The website's specs list for the smartphone with curved display noted that at launch, it came pre-installed with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
Currently, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge can be officially updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. But with the release of another custom ROM like Alex-V, adventurous Android users can now choose to have a firmware upgrade via this unofficial release.
To guarantee a successful update process via Alex-V ROM, users need to meet several requirements first. And the first one entails checking the model number.
According to Team Android, the latest Android 5.1.1 custom ROM update is compatible only to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge units bearing the model number G925F. To check the official mode, Edge 6 owners need only to go to Settings, tap About Phone and then look for Model Number.
After verifying the model number, Galaxy S6 Edge users should then check the battery level. To prevent power interruption issues during the custom ROM installation process, the phone should have at least 80 percent of battery capacity.
Any interruption that may arise while the ROM update is ongoing can brick or potentially damage Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. It is also necessary to make a proper backup of all the important files and settings stored on the smartphone
To do so, users can download a custom recovery tool like ClockWorkMod or TWRP. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge owners should be aware that any unofficial firmware update for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, or any other phone, can wipe clean the device's memory.
This is why securing a proper backup before an update is extremely essential. The required custom recovery tools will also be used to successfully flash the ROM on the smartphone.
Furthermore, using a custom ROM automatically voids the warranty for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Those who have strongly decided to use Alex-V custom ROM can head over to Team Android's posted linked above for the download links of necessary files as well as comprehensive installation instructions.
