The Met has lined up four of the greatest singers currently in the industry and it has brought out some of the best performances of the season. If you're looking for searing vocal drama (and a lot of fireworks), this is the work to see. Sondra Radvanovsky proves once again that she was born to sing these works.
In the end however, this revival of "Maria Stuarda" is a triumph. Radvanovsky continues to show why she is one of the great sopranos of our time and demonstrated that she is probably the only one at the moment who can truly give this music justice.
All in all, this was an unforgettable night with riveting performances. It is a shame that there will not be an HD recording for Radvanovsky's interpretation as it is sure to be legendary in years to come. With such a triumph as Anna, it is hard not to look forward to "Maria Stuarda" and "Roberto Devereux," two works that include some of Donizetti's most irresistible and mature music.
On Sept. 26 the Metropolitan Opera will revive Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" with Sondra Radvanovsky in the leading role and Elina Garanca as Giovanna Seymour.
