Miss Universe 2015 Conspiracy Theories: Publicity Stunt, Donald Trump Involvement and Other Speculations Run Amuck Social Media
Days after the controversial Miss Universe 2015 finale on Sunday, many beauty pageant enthusiasts seem to be having somewhat of a coronation night hangover.
Up until now, the results of the competition are still the talk-of-the-town which have spawned thousands of headlines. Several conspiracy theorists are also having a field day with claims and accusations regarding the pageant's dramatic conclusion.
The whole universe definitely lost it when Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey misread the results during the coronation night in Las Vegas on Dec. 20, crowning Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia instead of Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines as the winner. While the whole crowning moment was obviously awkward for both ladies, recent claims and accusations suggested that there are more reasons behind the blunder. And here are the top 4 conspiracy theories that have emerged after the controversial finale of the pageant.
1. Harvey's Mistake Was a "Well-Orchestrated Publicity Stunt."
Many viewers did not buy that the mistake. According to Daily Mail, conspiracy theorists believed that the Miss Universe Organization needed more attention, emphasizing the mistake was just a "publicity stunt."
2. The Teleprompter Made a Mistake.
While Harvey took full responsibility for the mistake, Miss Universe's snapchat revealed that the host said it was the teleprompter that actually made the mistake. Independent reported the teleprompter read, "Miss Universe -- Colombia."
3. Steve Harvey Needed the Attention.
While some claimed that the mistake was just a ploy for attention for Miss Universe, others were pointing out that Harvey purposely announced the wrong Miss Universe 2015 winner because he needed the attention.
4. Donald Trump Was Involved in the Epic Miss Universe 2015 Conclusion.
It has been a dramatic year for the Miss Universe franchise this year. The drama started when GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump said some offensive comments about immigrants, resulting to the selling of the pageant to WME/IMG and NBC, the pageant's former home, severed its ties with Trump as well as Univision dropping the pageant. While Trump no longer owns the pageant, conspiracy theorists believed he was somehow involved in the controversy.
Meanwhile, despite the conspiracy theories, Harvey did not purposely misread the results. According to Gossip Cop, the mistake was "completely accidental." And speaking of the rightful winner, what did Miss Philippines' Pia Wurtzbach win and what did Miss Colombia lose aside from the Miss Universe title?
