Jennifer Lopez Opens up About Being a Hollywood mom
Jennifer Lopez may be the busiest woman in Hollywood, but she'd be the first to tell you none of it would work without the help of her twin 7-year-olds.
"I am busy, and they know it," Lopez tells InStyle magazine for the publication's February cover story that dubs her Wonder Woman. "And they know part of their job is helping me get sleep. If I'm sleeping in, they're very quiet, like, 'Mommy needs to sleep! She worked late last night!' We're a team."
And in Hollywood and on the celebrity scene in general, Lopez has proven to be a one-woman wrecking crew. Already in 2016, she's set to star in the new NBC police drama "Shades of Blue" and serve as a judge on the 15th and final season of "American Idol."
In between all that, the 46-year-old mother of two is slated to start her "All I Have" Las Vegas residency tour early in the New Year. The Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino show will consist of 20 dates and run from Jan. 20 to Feb. 9 and then from May 22 to June 12.
"She's human," Lopez said of the Harlee Santos character she plays in "Shade of Blue. "Most people think they're the good guy. We're trying to do the best we can, but we all do bad things sometimes, whether it's lying or cheating ourselves or other people."
The Fox network airing series also starring Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo centers on a detective and mother who grew up Lopez's hometown of the the Bronx borough of New York City who is forced to help the FBI capture her shady boss after she is caught up in a federal anti-corruption probe.
As for being a mother, Lopez marvels, "becoming a mom makes you stronger but also more gentle, especially with yourself--and that changes everything."
Lopez insists no matter how busy she FaceTimes with her children every day and if she comes home after they've gone to sleep, she takes a photo of herself by their beds "so they know I was there."
