Apple iOS 9.3's New Feature Automatically Dims Screen to Help Users Sleep
Apple's next operating system wants users to fall asleep easier. iOS 9.3 is coming soon from Apple and it will include a new feature called Night Shift.
Night Shift will adjust to the display on the iPhone to make it "easier on (users') eyes" as it gets closer to night time, CNet reports.
The Night Shift mode will detect when it is night time and begin to adjust the colors on the iPhone towards "the warmer end of the spectrum."
Studies have shown that lights from electronics can disturb sleep. The blue light coming from the LED displays is able to slow or stop the production of melatonin, the hormone that helps the brain indicate it is time to sleep.
Night Shift will use the clock and location services in the iPhone to detect when the sun has gone down. When it is night time, the colors will automatically adjust so that the lights are easier on the eyes. When morning hits, the iPhone will go back to normal.
iOS 9.3 is still in its testing phase and it is only available to developers. The date of the release of the public version of iOS 9.3 is unknown.
Amazon also introduced a way to make reading and looking at devices easier at night time. Last month, Amazon introduced Blue Shade to make the brightness level on its Fire tablets display at an ultra-low level, but still being readable.
Apple's iOS 9 was released in September at the same time as the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s smartphones. Apple releases a full update to the operating system every year and minor upgrades during the year. The next major update to iOS will be iOS 10. There will probably be iOS 9.3 and iOS 9.4 before iOS 10 is released.
Apple's next operating system will also refresh the Notes, News and Health apps. The News app will offer more personalized news articles to the iPhone owner.
