Is the 'Attitude Era' Back? Vince McMahon Drops F-Bomb Live on 'Monday Night RAW'
Shane McMahon made his first WWE appearance after around seven years when he returned on the Feb. 22 edition of "Monday Night RAW." He confronted his father Vince McMahon while the latter was awarding the Vincent J. McMahon Legacy of Excellence to his sister Stephanie.
"Shane-O-Mac" discussed the real-life status of RAW and WWE with the low ratings and various injuries of its superstars. He wanted to gain control of the show and the company, but Vince would only make it official if Shane could defeat his chosen opponent.
The WWE chairman revealed that Shane would be facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 in a Hell in a Cell match. While doing so, Vince dropped the F-bomb on his son, saying that Shane would get a "f***ing beating."
Shades of the "Attitude Era"
It is very rare to hear the F-bomb dropped on any live shows anywhere, but USA Network was quick to bleep what Vince McMahon said. The 70-year-old is basically the owner of the company and he could very well do whatever he wants. It's WrestleMania season and the WWE is looking to add more interest on its product.
However, today's WWE is in the "PG Era," where F-bombs, sexual references, chair shots to the head and blood are absent. Vince's words just show that WWE might be going back, at least, to some of the elements of the "Attitude Era." It's the most successful time in the history of the company, and some of it can help sell out the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Blood on WWE
Speaking of blood, many of it was present in the last segment of "RAW" when Triple H brutally attacked Roman Reigns. The WWE champion slammed Reigns' head on the announcers' table more than a dozen times, causing him to bleed like a faucet.
Blading or the practice of intentionally cutting oneself to induce bleeding has been banned in the WWE since the start of the "PG Era." There would be times that blood would be present albeit unintentional, but it was speculated that Reigns used a blood capsule instead of a blade.
The video below taken by a fan during the beatdown showed "RAW" commentator Byron Saxton handing something to Reigns. Immediately, the former two-time champ was bleeding profusely to the delight of the crowd.
WWE said that Reigns underwent surgery for a broken nose after Triple H's attack. Still, many fans speculated that it was not real blood.
