D'Angelo Russell's Secret Video of Nick Young Talking About Other Women May Lead to Separation in the Offseason; Iggy Azalea 'Unhappy'
D’Angelo Russell was considered one of the top rookies from the 2015 NBA Draft though such didn’t really show with Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott opting to use him sparingly.
Russell has shown his defiance and thankfully some of his teammates like Jordan Clarkson are around to save him for creating a costly mistake. His latest prank however may have cost him even the trust of his teammates moving forward.
From Hero to Zero
Everyone has heard of that foolish stunt that Russell pulled just recently involving teammate Nick Young. Russell recorded a video on a clueless Young, asking him about being with other women other than fiancée Iggy Azalea.
Russell claims he had no idea how the video came out in the open, saying that it was supposed to be a joke between teammates. Though that remains to be seen, such has placed the rookie guard in a pretty tough spot where his teammates and the Lakers fans have condemned him for the immature prank.
"I can't really show my face anywhere without people hating me right now," Russell said. "I don't know. I try to handle it the right way and remember why I'm here, which is to play basketball."
Can Time Heal This Wound?
The common notion going on within the Lakers camp right now is whether they can still trust someone like Russell. Though it was meant as a prank, the fact is that it was a bit below the belt made worse with the video going viral.
Kobe Bryant, who is on his last tour of duty can only talk to the rookie though it was far from comforting.
“All I can do is just do my best Yoda impersonations and give him that kind of sage advice, I guess. One day pass, this shall -- or something like that," said Bryant, who talked to Russell and termed the whole thing as unfortunate.
Can Young Ever Forgive Russell?
The video has caused more damage that Russell can imagine. With the cheating admission, Young and Azalea’s relationship are reportedly on the rocks.
The couple are engaged but after the video, things may have taken a turn for the worse. Young is however trying to desperately save the relationship saying that he is madly in love with the rapper.
As for Russell and Young, it remains to be seen when the two can bury the hatchet. Russell played to a chorus of boos against the Miami Heat but was obviously a different player. He was more attentive and had to deal with the fact of being isolated especially from Young. The Lakers won that one, 102-100.
While Russell did apologize to Young, more time may be needed before the two can ever buckle down to being friends once more.
"I think it's something we really do need to sit down and talk about. That's about it. What happened is what happened. We've got to work on it," said Young.
