The opportunities available for Latino youth, particularly women, in the United States is always a topic of much debate but a hashtag on social media is proving that success is possible by celebrating all the 2016 Latinas graduating college.

Female college grads are posting photos of their decorated graduation caps on Instagram using the hashtag #LatinxGradCaps.

The commencement caps are decorated to show off their Latino pride, to prove that Latinas can be successful and to thank their parents who helped make their educational goals possible.

Several hats make references to being a child of immigrants, crossing borders and rising above what is stereotypically expected of Latinas in the United States.

Most of the images have been shared on the Instagram account called Latina Rebels, which celebrates Latinas in a variety of aspects and, with graduation season upon us, chose to highlight educational success.

Latinas, although faced with a variety of traditional factors brought upon by culture and gender, have seen higher college graduation rates than their male peers over the last few years.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, by 2013 60 percent of four-year college degrees awarded to Latinos go to women.

However, despite their educational achievements, Latinas still face unequal pay and have one of the lowest college graduation rates when compared to other ethnic groups.
