Moto Z Could Get Tango AR Functionality Through Moto Mod
Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was the first smartphone to ship with Google Tango Augmented Reality technology on board, Motorola is going to introduced Tango AR functionality soon in their upcoming devices devices.
Tango needs some specific hardware to run like motion trackers and depth sensing cameras and Motorola is apparently planning a different platform to launch this new feature in their upcoming devices.
Lenovo CEO Aymar de Lencquesaing said at a press event that Tango might be on its way to Moto Z. The AR technology is not to be included in the special version of smartphone. Motorola is looking to release a new MotoMod modular sensor which incorporates the additional sensor for Tango. As soon as the mod is snapped in Moto Z, it will automatically turn the device's compatibility.
Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was launched in the beginning of this month, with a 6.4 inches screen and its multiple camera and sensors, this smartphone can allow users to virtually map a room quickly and move around virtual images of real world objects on top of the map.
The clip on accessories announcement last summer along with Moto Z failed to inspire enthusiasts but the addition of Google's room mapping technology might be a game changer.
MotoMod is an intriguing feature that may start rumors in the tech world. People have only seen a few of these modular attachments for the Moto Z line and none of them has been successful. The Tango mod could perhaps be the exception but nothing is certain as there are no confirmation or denial if this will actually happen.
Lencquesaing said, "At this moment Tango's technology doesn't really seem for the use of regular customer, but company is giving a try to make it more stable and user friendly to the customers."
