Everybody was expecting The Oscars 2017 night to be iconic like always. However, the 89th Academy Awards will go down in history for a completely different reason.

The "Moonlight"- "La La Land" fiasco had everybody jaw dropped. Producer of "La La Land" Jordan Horowitz suspected something was wrong the moment headset-clad operators entered the Oscars stage.

Faye Dunaway's announcement that "La La Land" has won the 2017 Academy Award for best picture sent people into a frenzy. The whole cast and crew went to stage and Horowitz just started his award acceptance speech when all hell broke loose. It was revealed that due to a card mix-up a mistake had happened and "Moonlight" is the real winner.

"I'm holding the envelope and the award, and I had just given my speech, and there are people on the stage with headsets, and I thought, 'That doesn't seem right," New York Times quoted Horowitz saying.

Horowitz further added that the authorities asked to see the envelope. It said "Emma Stone, La La Land," for the actress just won the Best Actress award moments before. The card was clearly not for the Best Picture award.

Horowitz stated that although he was sad for "La La Land" not winning but he is proud of "Moonlight" cast and crew for earning the Academy Award for Best Picture. He then personally presented the trophy to the deserving winner.

According to Vox, PricewaterhouseCoopers is the company that is in charge of counting the Oscar ballots. They issued an official statement taking the blame for the mix-up.

In the statement, PricewaterhouseCoopers apologized to "Moonlight", "La La Land", Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error of the card mix-up. It was explained that the award presenters were given the wrong envelope by mistake and as soon as it was discovered, it was immediately corrected.

PricewaterhouseCoopers regretted that such a massive mistake took place. The firm assured that the incident is currently under investigation as for how this could have happened.

However, Warren Beatty did feel something was off about the card before handing it to Dunaway. Everybody noticed Beatty hesitance before announcing the award and now asking why didn't he come forward.
