'Batgirl' surely won't be missing as she joins other DC characters getting standalone films. The DC character has been confirmed that she will be flying solo and got Josh Whedon directing her.

According to Variety, Josh Whedon is closing on a deal to direct, write, and produce the untitled 'Batgirl' of Barbara Gordon entry to DC's cinematic Universe. The report also hinted that another Gotham-based character could also appear with Barbara.

Warner Bros. claimed that 'Batgirl' is going to be the second female-led DC superhero movie aside from "Wonder Woman." Another report also suggests that Barbara's entry might be coming sooner than "Gotham City Sirens" spinoff from "Suicide Squad" by David Ayer.

'Batgirl' is one of the most popular DC characters even in most superheroes but hasn't got her own movie. The Chief content officer and the president of Warner Bros., Toby Emmerich stated that he is overseeing Josh Whedon, Geoff John, and John Berg. It seems that Whedon is the only certain for the film as the project has just begun last month.

'Batgirl' first appeared in DC comics titled "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!" back in 1967 as the daughter of the Gotham City police, James Gordon. The DC comic was written by an artist Carmine Infantino and by writer Garden Fox. Meanwhile, Josh Whedon was known because of his works from having directed and written some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Mary Sue has reported.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron," "The Avengers," and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" are some of the works done by Josh Whedon for Disney-Marvel. He also created "Firefly," Angel," "Dollhouse," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." So, it is a big jump for Whedon from Marvel into DC Cinematic Universe by doing the upcoming 'Batgirl' standalone film.

There is no further information revealed yet for the Batgirl as of the moment. Meanwhile, the studio is also developing the "Gotham City of Sirens" with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn character, "The Batman" starring Ben Affleck, "Shazam," and Black Adams spinoff with the lead actor Dwayne Johnson.
