Luis Guzmán, a Puerto Rican actor in the United States of America had humble beginnings in his career. He had even worked a completely unrelated career before he started to pursue his acting career. 

Guzmán had been working in the entertainment industry as an actor for films and television shows for years. Landing minor roles in films, his perseverance to reach his dreams did not fail him. His acting career reached multiple milestones since his debut in the industry. His career had allowed him to land roles in films such as 'Traffic', 'The Count of Monte Cristo', and 'Boogie Nights'. 

His career as a social worker had allowed him to satisfactorily play his role in his latest film, 'Hold On'. This movie will start to be shown in cinemas on Friday.

His recent film revolves around the story of an ambitious singer (by Micayla De Ette). The character struggles to succeed in a singing career and at the same time helping his brother fight addiction to strengthen her family's bond.

According to Luis Guzmán, the heart of the story is not about underdogs but it is mainly about embracing adversity and finding the courage to survive. 

He said during an interview with NBC News that a lot of people are battling and losing battles for simply giving up. The movie is about trusting your abilities and fighting for yourself. 

Luis Guzmán said that he never forgets his roots as a social worker. That previous career had given inspiration to him to successfully play his role in the movie.

Guzmán has a minimum of 110 movies and thirty TV credits. He had acquired his first acting gig when he was working to find a missing child during his work as a social worker. His friend had enticed him to audition for a role in 'Miami Vice' in the 1980s. The role that he landed during that time had opened opportunities for him in the industry such as the TV shows, 'Shameless' and 'Godfather of Harlem'.

In his recent movie, Guzmán's role is a pastor. His inspiration for playing this role was through his approach towards social advocacy during his social worker career. His previous work as a social worker, he had tried multiple times to help people in a community who are suffering from depression, intense sadness, and different types of hardships to improve their lives.

According to him, the church is a place where people may feel security and a pastor has to lead the community to better their lives.

Also included in the movie is Luis Guzmán's son, Cemi Guzmán. His son had an acting role and helped produce the movie. There were other Latinos who contributed to the movie to showcase the real stories of their communities.

Luis Guzman said that the story in the movie represents a group in the country. He said that this group/ community is part of the country.

According to Cemi Guzmán, the Latinos in the United States possess great economic influence and there is a need for that power to be expressed in films and other forms of media.
