Selena Gomez Launches “Rare Beauty” Line
Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Millie Bobby Brown, and Drew Barrymore are just a few of our favorite celebrities that have launched their own makeup lines. A lot of celebrities nowadays are turning years of makeup knowledge into a full-time passion project.
On February 4th, Selena Gomez surprised all of us by posting a video on her Instagram page. It was a sneak peak into her two year "secret" project that is officially named Rare Beauty. Although it has not yet officially launched in the stores, the Rare Beauty Instagram page has now 1.2 million followers and Gomez's fans can't wait for her products to hit the shelves.
Promoting self-love and self-appreciation
Singer, songwriter and actress Selena Gomez has always been public when it comes to her struggles with weight gain due to her health condition. She also opened up about her experiences as being a victim of online bullying and body shaming on social media.
With social media running our lives, there is immense pressure on young girls to look a certain way. Social media has always left a confusing impression on all of us. It can either build you or break you. Although there are numerous campaigns on building self-esteem and accepting your own body, it's still not enough. A lot of young adults still find the need to purchase unnecessary items and go on unhealthy diets in order to achieve a certain look.
Celebrities like Gomez are given the responsibility to use their platform to promote only the best for their followers and to use their platform and their voices to promote body positivity and self-love. Gomez is doing just that.
She believes that a lot of women are struggling to keep up with the impossible standards that society has put on them. These daily struggles can impact a woman's mental health and self-esteem.
Her makeup line was created to make women feel great and confident and not necessarily to feel beautiful. Rare Beauty would ease the pressure placed on us by society with feeling the need to look a certain way, instead it would promote confidence and thus would exude true beauty.
