US Reaches More Than 100,000 COVID-19 Infections in a Single Day
The number of COVID-19 infections in the U.S. has reached more than 100,000 just in a single day. This is the highest record so far since the pandemic began.
The world continues to battle a global pandemic for almost nearly nine months. Until today, the number of infections continues to increase across the globe. It seems that the virus is not showing any signs in slowing down both in infections and in deaths.
On Wednesday, the U.S. has reached a total number of 102,831 new COVID-19 infections, as per CNN. This is the highest number of infections in just a single day in the country since the pandemic began. It's also marked as the first time that the COVID-19 infections have reached six digits in just a single day.
This is only one of the indicators that health and infectious disease experts projected as the country is entering into the winter season.
In a previous report of Latin Post, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the number of infections could go higher this winter if health protocols will not be followed.
According to CNN News, the country experienced the top five days with the highest infections last week. The highest record of infections last week was noted on October 30, which listed 99,321
The news outlet also added that the weekly average of COVID-19 infections is now about 89,859 which is 108 percent higher compared last month.
John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center has now a total tally of more than 9.4 million infections with more than 233,000 deaths in the country. This still makes the country with the highest infections and deaths due to the absence of a vaccine.
COVID-19 shows no sign of slowing down
The number of infections in every state across the country continues to show an alarming pattern. On the same day that the country reached its highest number of infections, Oregon has reported 597 new cases while the state of Wisconsin recorded 5,930 cases.
This continuous surge is alarming most especially since US is entering into a flu season.
This is the reason why health and infectious disease experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci continue to urge and remind everyone in the country to observe social distancing, handwashing, and wearing face masks.
These are so far the basic COVID-19 measures that help reduce the number of infections across the globe. Moreover, Dr. Fauci also urged lawmakers before the election that there should be a federal mask mandate to make sure that everyone will wear their mask in public. Anyone who will be caught violating this will be penalized.
Another problem that may add up to the swelling number of COVID-19 infections is the Thanksgiving Holiday which is just around the corner. The holiday season could cause a surge if residents in the country will let their guard down and choose to gather with family and friends.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still does not recommend social gathering most especially if it will be held indoors. There have been reports and studies conducted which revealed that indoor activities or social gathering could increase the infections
