Cher Apologizes to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: "Believe" Singer Confused Gillibrand With Sen. Kyrsten Sinema on "Traitor" Tweets
Pop icon and singer Cher, apologized to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York City after the "Believe" singer confused her with Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Also, an award-winning actress, Cher slammed Gillibrand and called the senator a "fake Democrat" and "traitor," according to The Wrap.
Cher's confusion over Senators Gillibrand and Sinema was then posted on her Twitter account. The "traitor" tweets of the "Believe" singer were now deleted, but it was replaced by a sincere apology, after she called out Senator Kristen Gillibrand from New York.
Cher Apologizes to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand After Calling her a "Fake Democrat"
NBC News reported that Cher's original deleted tweet asked her 3.9 million followers if there are many ways for New yorker to kick Gillibrand out of the Senate arguing that kicking her out should be done "Be4 she hands Our Country 2 trump & his criminals."
However, Cher intended the tweet for Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a Democratic senator from Arizona who resisted to back a motion in getting rid of the Filibuster, an old practice in law-making that prevents Democrats from passing voting rights legislation and other progressive reforms.
After realizing her mistake, the "Believe" singer issued an apology on her Twitter account 10 hours after the original tweet, where she called out Kirsten Gillibrand after confusing the senator with Kyrsten Sinema.
"I must offer my deepest apologies to New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. When I wrote a text I made grave error of confusing her with Senator Kyrsten Sinema," said Cher in her tweet. Apart from the New York Senator, the award-winning actress also apologized to the people of New York. Cher's apology was applauded by her fans, with one saying that the singer is only a human and people make mistakes.
Meanwhile, Senator Gillibrand takes no offense to Cher's shortcomings. The New York Senator replied to Cher's apology saying, "no problem." Senator Gillibrand also said in her reply that they can turn back time, pertaining to one of the singer's hit music "If I Could Turn Back Time," and even added musical notes emoji at the end of her tweet.
Apart from Cher's apology to the New York Senator, the singer also apologized a couple of months ago after tweeting that she could have stopped the death of George Floyd if she was in the area where the incident happened.
"Believe" Singer Cher Being Vocal on U.S. Social Issues
Despite the confusion Cher had to overcome between Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Kyrsten Sinema, it was not the first time the "Moonstruck" star has voiced out her opinions on certain social issues.
Earlier in June, Cher advocated a movement that tackles gun violence in the United States. The "believe" singer also voices out her opposition against former President Donald Trump.
"We must choose good over evil, democracy over dictatorship, or our lives, the lives of our children will only be about 'surviving' trump and the viciousness he embodies," said Cher in one of her tweets.
Cher also connected the ransomware attacks that occurred in the United States arguing that if Donald Trump was in the post, he would only say "I'm Rich."
