A teenager who was waiting for his girlfriend in her backyard was hit with a stun gun by a Florida state trooper, according to a statement from the boy's mother on Wednesday.

Racially Motivated

According to the Washington Post, the incident was caught on a private video, where the 16-year-old boy was seen in the backyard of his girlfriend's home on June 16th. This was when the Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrived and asked the boy to put his hands behind his back.

The video also revealed that the trooper tased the teenager after the teenager ignored his orders. Jack then fell and hit his back and head on a fire pit.

Kristina Rodeman, the mother of 16-year-old Jack, described her son as biracial. She also speculated that her son was profiled by the trooper because he was black and he was wearing black clothes.

Rodeman also stated that her son did not do anything that should have caught the trooper's attention and that he was only waiting for his girlfriend.

In addition, Rodeman stated that she was hurt when Jack's girlfriend's family showed her the videos of the incident.

Meanwhile, highway patrol officials are yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the incident. However, a report by WBBH stated that the department is now conducting an internal investigation in connection to what happened.

'Suspicious Clothing in a Private Neighborhood'

According to NBC News,  Jack's mother also provided what the trooper, who tased her son wrote in the probable cause statement of the arrest.

Based on the written statement, Florida trooper George Smyrnios reported that he saw a teen who was in suspicious clothing as he was patrolling into a private neighborhood called Timber Lake. The report stated that the defendant was dressed in all black, from top to bottom. Smyrnios also stated that the teenager ran away and hid in a thick shrub upon seeing the patrol vehicle, which added to his suspicions.

Smyrnios also wrote that the body language and behavior of the teenage "appeared to be a burglar." He then stated that it was like the boy committed or was about to commit a crime.

According to Jack's attorney, Derek Tyler, Jack mentioned that he was tased by the Florida trooper at least four times. However, the exact number of times remains unclear since the written statement of Smyrnios states that he only fired the stun gun twice.

Tyler also stated that Jack took the same path he took every day when he goes to his girlfriend's house.

Smyrnios arrested Jack with charges of resisting without violence, failure to obey a lawful order, and possession of marijuana.

According to Jack's mother, the marijuana was not illegal as it was her prescription which Jack took without permission.

The teenager is now being held in a juvenile detention center. It was stated that he was suffering from back pain as a result of his fall after he was tased.

On the other hand, a retired police chief from the former Bergen County Police Department in New Jersey, Brian Higgins stated that the trooper used unnecessary deployment of a weapon, and made questionable decisions.
