Nokia Tablet Release Date 2013: Telecom to Release 'Sirius' Next Month?
Nokia is reportedly making its way to the tablet industry with a Windows RT tablet codenamed "Sirius", reports The Verge. The unveiling of "Sirius" is rumored to take place at a Nokia launch event in New York on September 26.
News about Nokia's very own tablet has escalated to a possible tablet launch next month. According to The Verge, unnamed sources have confirmed that what seemed to be a cancelled release of "Nvidia" is now an inch wider tablet initially codenamed "Vanquish", now called "Sirius."
Earlier last month, The Verge reported about leaked photos of a supposed 10-inch Nokia tablet called "Nvidia P1001". The photos were posted in a Korean game forum, Naver Café. The 10-inch tablet was never launched in spite of a scheduled debut and was cancelled "in favor of a full Windows 8 version."
"Nvidia" is said to run on an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. The tablet was also supposedly packed with HDMI and USB ports and a SIM slot. A headphone jack could also imply that the tablet supports LTE connectivity.
The Verge then released a report this month about another leaked Nokia tablet photo which was initially posted in a Chinese website, Digi-wo. The photo showed the back of a red 10.1-inch tablet with logos of Nokia, Windows RT and Verizon printed on it.
Rumors of another Nokia tablet - "Vanquish" - were also in circulation. The tablet was reportedly an AT&T variant of the 10.1-inch tablet. "Vanquish" was rumored to run on Windows RT and Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. Like the Verizon variant, "Vanquish" will also support LTE connectivity.
However, last Monday the tech website noted that unnamed sources confirmed that Nokia will be launching a 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet named "Sirius". The tablet will look like a tablet version of the Nokia Lumia and reportedly has the following features and specifications:
- Thinner than the current model of the iPad
- Weighs a little over a pound
- 10.1-inch display
- 1920 x 1080 resolution with improved outdoor readability
- 6-megapizel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera
- Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
- 2GB RAM
- microSD port to extend the 32GB worth of storage
- Micro HDMI connector
- Micro USB port
- 10-hour battery life
- LTE connectivity support
- Keyboard accessory with battery
As for the price, "Sirius" is said to be sold for the same price range as Apple's iPad, starting at around $500 says BGR.
