V. Stiviano Responds to Drake Calling Her 'Side Piece of the Year' at 2014 ESPYs [Watch]
As the host of this year's ESPN Awards on Wednesday, July 16, Drake certainly did not hesitate to showcase his improvisation, acting and music skills, even poking fun at the Donald Sterling racism controversy and naming former mistress V. Stiviano as the "side piece of the year."
The Toronto emcee took the stage to diss Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his alleged girlfriend V. Stiviano. Right before his hilarious performance, he explained to the audience: "This last track means a lot to me ... you know, it's ... it's really inspired by the side piece of the year. The elegant, the beautiful, the discreet ... V. Stiviano."
Displaying a photo of Stiviano sporting her infamous visor on the screen behind, Drizzy continued.
"Now look, I wanna tell you. This is, this is the single off the album so I had to bring the music video, I just wanna let you know," he said. "I'm ready when you're ready, let me know!"
Next, the hashtag "SterlingNeverLoveUs" appeared on the screen, as Drake began rapping to the mix of his hit "Worst Behavior" and eventually ran off the stage. In the footage, the OVO Sound founder sampled Sterling's CNN interview -- in which he claims that "I've never been a racist" and "I like gorgeous black guys, I love Magic Johnson."
V. Stiviano apparently was not offended by the "Started from the Bottom" hitmaker's recent shout-out at all; she was rather flattered.
"I loved his performance. Drake is awesome," she said to TMZ. "That's a very big compliment."
When asked about the YMCMB rapper's sampling of Sterling's voice, she repeatedly insisted: "I don't know about that."
Drake also performed two other never-before-heard tracks. He first called out everyone who had lost over the year, including Kevin Durant, Macklemore, Colin Kaepernick and Danica Patrick, in "Honorable Mention." He then performed "Side Pieces" with Brian McKnight to joke that most of the athletes probably had girls on the side while traveling.
