Catherine Zeta Jones Michael Douglas Split: Is the Couple Really Breaking Up?
We hope not, but reports say Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have both decided to spend some time apart to take a break.
According to People Magazine, the 13-year relationship is taking a much needed "break" for the moment.
"Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage," a rep for the actress said in a statement Wednesday, reports the L.A. Times.
The ace couple has been married for almost 13 years and has two kids - 13-year-old Dylan and 10-year-old Carys. Douglas and Zeta Jones have been through several problems during their marriage, including medical problems and Douglas' son's issues with drugs and the law.
While 2010 was a high time for the couple - they renewed their wedding vows after 10 years of marriage - it was also a year of health turmoil with the 68-year-old actor being diagnosed with throat cancer. Douglas' throat cancer went as far as stage 4 that very same year, says New York Daily News.
In 2011, it was the 43-year-old actress' turn to battle health issues. Although Douglas was able to overcome throat cancer, the couple's married life was again put to a test when wife Catherine was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder.
Earlier this year, in April, Zeta Jones reportedly sought treatment again for the mental condition. It was a month after, in May, that the couple reportedly decided to "spend some time apart."
Reports say that Douglas and Zeta Jones were last photographed together on April 22. Since then, the couple has been spending vacations separately.
According to the New York Daily News, Douglas was spotted having a vacation in Sardinia while wife Catherine was miles away in New York. Zeta Jones has also spent a vacation without her husband - bringing only their two kids with her in their vacation home in Canada, reports E! Online.
Though the couple has officially announced that they are taking a break and spending some time apart, neither party has reportedly filed for divorce, says People Magazine.
