MLB Trade Rumors 2014: Top 5 Players Likely to Be Traded Before Deadline
We're officially 100 games into the Major League Baseball season and it's been a wild ride so far. The MLB trade deadline is Thursday, July 31. With just one week remaining, we have accumulated a list of the five best players who could to be traded before the deadline.
5. John Danks
Pretty tough year for Chicago baseball fans. Both the White Sox and Cubs have losing records and the playoffs aren't looking too good. Danks is obviously past his prime, but there's a very good chance he will be traded. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have been rumored to be in the mix for acquiring Danks.
4. Cliff Lee
The Philadelphia Phillies are in last place in the National League East and Cliff Lee is almost 36 years old. The Phillies should trade him and get value while they still can. Lee obviously isn't in his prime anymore, as he has a 3.67 ERA this season, but there are many teams that could use his services. Teams like the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Detroit Tigers.
3. Daniel Murphy
The New York Mets are in third place in the National League East behind the Braves and Nationals. Playoffs are a possibility and second basemen Daniel Murphy has been in heavy trade talks. He's an underrated player who has batted .290 over his six year career. He's no Hall of Famer, but a good player who won't cost a lot.
2. David Price
David Price has become the Kevin Love of baseball. Trade rumors have been swirling constantly with Price. Of course multiple AL East teams could use him, but it's unlikely the Rays would trade their best pitcher within the division. Price is only 28 years old and has a long career ahead of him. If (and that's a big if) he is to be traded away, it would most expected to be to a National League team.
1. Giancarlo Stanton
The Florida Marlins love trading away players. The Marlins are currently in fourth place in the National League East. Although Giancarlo Stanton is viewed as a slugger because of his high powered home runs, he is batting a career best .291 this season. The Saint Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals would be perfect fits, as they both rank at the bottom in home runs hit and are both still in the playoff race.
