Baseball, America's past time, is heading into the home stretch of its schedule. What better way to celebrate Labor Day than playing one of the oldest sports in our nation's history?

1. Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

It's been an extremely disappointing season for the Red Sox. After winning last year's World Series title, the Red Sox are the worst team in the American League East at 59-75. The Rays on the hand have had an "up and down season." After trading away ace pitcher David Price, their playoff hopes pretty much ended.

The Rays and Red Sox will face each other at Tropicana Field at 1:10 p.m.

2. New York Mets at Florida Marlins

A nice little National League East game. The Mets haven't made the playoffs since 2006, and that won't be changing this season. The Mets are just 63-72, and many questions remain about the future. As for the Marlins, they're still barely alive with 65 wins for a wild card spot.

The Mets and Marlins play one another at Marlins Park at 1:10 p.m.

3. Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves

Here are two team who really don't like each other. The Phillies are having a terrible season as Ryan Howard continues to show old age and injuries take a toll. The Braves find themselves just one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot.
The Phillies and Braves will battle at Turner Field at 1:10 p.m.

4. Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles have been the best home run-hitting team in the majors this year. Nelson Cruz leads the team with 34 home runs and 88 runs batted in. The Orioles have all but clinched the American League East division. The Twins find themselves at 59-75.

The Twins and Orioles will face one another at Oriole Park at 1:35 p.m.

5. Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals

The Pirates still have a fighting chance at winning the NL Central, but it looks like a wild card spot is more appropriate finish for them. The Pirates are just one game behind the Cardinals for a wild card in a tight National League race. The Cardinals are trying to make it back to the World Series after losing to the Red Sox last year.

The Pirates and Cardinals face off at Busch Stadium at 2:20 p.m.

6. Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs

The "Brew Crew" currently find themselves in first place at 73-61. Dominican born pitcher Wily Peralta has been fantastic this season with 15 victories. Unfortunately for the Cubs, the 100 year anniversary of Wrigley Field is going so well, as they find themselves in last place in the division.

The Brewers and Cubs will play one another at Wrigley Field at 2:20 p.m.

7. Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Indians

Both of these teams have a winning record and are still in the mix. The Tigers have been slumping lately but still find themselves in the lead for the second wild-card slot. The Indians are 69-63 and have won seven of their last 10 games. This is a big game for both teams.

The Tigers and Indians will play each other at Progressive Field at 4:05 p.m.

8. Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics

This is without a doubt the biggest game of the week as far as playoff implications are concerned. The Mariners are fighting with the New York Yankees and Tigers for a playoff spot, while the Athletics are trying to regain their AL West lead. Both teams need this win for home field advantage as well.

The Athletics and Mariners battle one another at the Coliseum at 4:05 p.m.

9. San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have the worst record in all of baseball, so they're just here to mess things up for the Giants. The Giants have been fighting with the Dodgers all season long, but it looks like they will have to settle for a wild-card spot. Still, this team is very dangerous come playoff time.

The Giants and Rockies will face off at Coors Field at 4:10 p.m.

10. Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres

Neither of these teams will be making the playoffs this season. The Diamondbacks are 56-78, while the Padres are just 63-70. Although this game holds no playoff implications, it should still be a good National League showdown for fans on their day off.

The Padres will take on the Diamondbacks at PETCO Park at 4:10 p.m.

11. Texas Rangers at Kansas City Royals

The Royals continues to defy logic. The team ranks dead last in home runs hit, and they are trying to end the longest playoff drought in sports. They haven't made the playoffs since 1985. They have to take advantage of a Rangers team who has an American League worst 53 wins.

The Royals will host the Rangers at Kauffman Stadium at 8:10 p.m.

12. Washington Nationals at Los Angeles Dodgers

The Giants are lurking, but most likely the Dodgers will win the AL West. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will most likely win this year's AL Cy Young Award. The Nationals lead the NL East with 76 wins, so this should be a terrific game.

The Nationals and Dodgers square off at Dodgers Stadium at 8:10 p.m.
