Wentworth Miller Tried Killing Himself Before Deciding To Come Out As Gay
It shocked the whole world when former 'Prison Break' star Wentworth Miller came out of the closet and admitted he is gay.
Such a move broke the hearts of many of his lady fans but no one knew how hard it was for the 41-year-old actor to overcome his own personal struggles. He revealed during the Human Rights Campaign's Seattle Gala last week how he first attempted to kill himself when he was 15.
Here is an exact excerpt from his speech during the gala event as transcribed by TMZ:
"The first time I tried to kill myself I was 15. I waited until my family went away for the weekend and I was alone in the house, and I swallowed a bottle of pills. I don't remember what happened over the next couple of days, but I'm pretty sure come Monday morning I was on the bus back to school, pretending everything was fine. And when someone asks me if that was a cry for help, I'd say, 'No.' You only cry for help if you believe there's help to cry for. And I didn't need it, I wanted out."
Miller admitted that he had plenty of chances to come out during the peak of his career with the popular Fox series, but he chose not to since he was filled with so much fear then. It was in 2007 when rumors that he might be gay first circulated, and he just insisted in interviews that he had not met the right girl yet.
Instead, Miller decided to come out in a letter in which he turned down an invitation to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival due to Russia's anti-gay laws.
